Heartless by Holly Black, a quick read I recommend
Heartless by Holly Black is certainly a short story I was happy to have discovered today. Her style is not just gripping, but laced with an honest tone that I couldn’t turn away from.
What to expect:
If you get a chance to read Heartless, don’t expect a Cinderella fairytale with singing mice and fairy godmothers. Be prepared for a dark story, blood and some provocative imagery.
If you plan to check it out, I encourage you also to think about the mirrored mythology of the ring finger and the heart. Some ancient cultures believed that a vein ran from the fourth finger to the heart. I am speculating that perhaps Holly had that in mind when she wrote this story.
That’s all for now. Also, I am determined to finish reading The Hobbit so I am taking a break from any writing, blogging or otherwise, and will return with a report on the book.
Thanks for visiting 🙂
