Inspiration from Fellow Creatives:
Featuring Artist Jennifer Healy
Thank goodness for google plus; without it I never would have discovered Jennifer Healy.
Taking her work at face value alone, right off the bat it’s easy to apprecite her attention to detail. The steps past good technique are what prompted me to discuss her work today.
Her unique style jumped out at me right away. Entranced by the whimsical atmosphere she creates, I immediatly begin to drift away from reality and into this starnge world her characters live in. Emerging from flowers or featuring sea shell eye lashes, these characters embody a lovely connection to, maybe even an implied power derived from nature.
What is so powerul to me about artists with such distinctly signature bodies of work, like Jennifer, is that as a viewer I genuinely feel as if I’m glimpsing not just her imagination, but also seeing pieces of her human experience. Jennifer manages to present female subjects in very emotional ways not just by depcting water in their eyes when they’re sad or stern expressions when they’re fearless. I feel that her characters personalities are heightened by her soft pastel color choices as well as the confrontational compositions that force us to wonder what her subjects are thinking. When I look at the images, I understand them beause even though they are mythical creatures, I relate to they’re obvious human essence.
