Gorgon Art Project – Flashback
For my senior exhibition in December of 2011, I created a
Mythological Portrait series. This was a fun project from start to finish, but
there is still something I learned during my research of that project that I
feel needs more addressing. That something is Medusa’s story. I was able to
draw attention to the less than happy events leading up to the head of snakes
curse put on her by Athena but I still don’t feel I’ve done Medusa enough
justice. Though I do maintain there are threads in that story dealing
with typical “damsel in distress” stereotypes, it is time to also acknowledge what
seems like a classic misunderstood character situation.
Having had months of her lurking around in the back of my
mind, she’s finally working her way out in a new project. At this time, I’m not
ready to elaborate further although this should be a fairly quick venture, so
you should know more soon.
