whirlwind. I’ve learned more than I ever thought possible, and have enjoyed
connecting with all of my readers and fellow writers. I had hoped to see
book two of the Obsidian Series published by December of 2014, but due to my
own determination to do justice to this story as well as other factors, that
has not proven to be a realistic goal. However, book two is in the final
editing stages and will be available in 2015, and draft one of book three is
already done! 2015 will be a big year. Thank you all for joining me on the
Obsidian Series journey and I hope you will enjoy the soon to come Obsidian Series
updates. I appreciate your patience and promise to do my best to make the next
books worth your wait.
Also, as the New Year begins, I am excited to share a surprise gift from me to
you. In lieu of the book I hoped to have published in December, please enjoy my
new short story, Legends of the Conjuring Gift (free for a limited time).
Inspiration for Legends of the Conjuring Gift:
(This is likely best to read after having read the short story)
For anyone who has interest, I wanted to share my inspirations behind Legends of the Conjuring Gift. About two years ago, I joined my husband on a Semi-Truck while he was traveling the country for a job. Aside from the small space and expense of restaurant food (it’s hard to cook in a truck), the experience was amazing. We saw so many beautiful parts of the U.S., and two states in particular that I adored were New York and Pennsylvania. We drove through in the Fall, when the leaves were many shades of orange, yellow, green and more. Scattered throughout the many hills, there was so much mystery in the numerous lean rivers and streams that wove through mist-coated fields and the tall colorful woods. The world, setting, seasons and landscapes of Legends of the Conjuring Gift, were inspired by the travels through those states that sparked so much intrigue as my mind wondered what kind of creatures and adventures a place like that could hold.
Within the beauty of the Legends of the Conjuring world are the characters and history of an ancient human race, and among that race is a young woman named Ferryn. Ferryn begins to exhibit certain abilities which suggest she has a certain talent that is rare among her species, but she denies this out of fear. Due to fear of the responsibility this talent would bring, fear she wasn’t the right person to have such abilities, fear of being different and fear of failure, Ferryn finds many reasons to run from her natural gift.
This is a situation to which I personally can relate. For many reasons, I ran away from writing, even though I’ve always had a very deep draw to the art of words and stories. Having dealt with dyslexia in my youth and having turned to dark poetry in hard times, which perpetuated pain, I feared going back to writing after I abandoned it for a time. Not to mention, like most Authors and Poets, I was extremely nervous about sharing my writing, since it is an extension of me. It is not uncommon, I don’t believe, to fear the gifts and passions we are given and passions we are drawn to for one reason or another. Unfortunately, I think it is also natural that when these passions or abilities are ignored, opportunities are missed and even consequences can result. There is not doubt that we can find freedom in embracing those parts of ourselves and we can often best contribute to the world around us by sharing these passions and talents. Ultimately this story was a realization of an important evolution in my own personal journey, but I do hope it will inspire others dealing with the same inner struggle.
Happy 2015! Let’s make it awesome!
